Mine Planning Technical LeadCalgary, Alberta
The successful candidate will be a member of the Kearl Operations Technical Team and will report to the Mine and Tailings Planning Supervisor. The Mine Planning Technical Lead will be responsible for technical support and guidance to the mine and tailings planning team and the work required in supporting the Operations group. The successful candidate will be based at the Kearl operating mine site located north of Fort McMurray, and will be working on a fly-in, fly-out basis.
Responsibilities include:
- Be a safety leader – support and adhere by all standards and procedures and operate with safety as a value
- Provide technical support and leadership to Mine Planning team in the development of short to mid-range mine and tailings plans, including input into annual business plans and budgets
- Technical guidance and support in continuous improvements projects
- Support and assist with regulatory submissions / applications
- Extensive interaction with operations to implement mine and tailings schedules and plans

- Interface with Maintenance Engineers, Process Engineers, Operations Personnel, Geotechnical Engineers and Geologists
- Participate in safety, health and environmental assessments
- Interface with other projects and operations groups The successful applicant will join a growing oil sands team that will contribute to one of the largest and technically challenging resource development projects in Canada. This position provides excellent opportunity for professional growth within the organization.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in mining / tailings engineering, preferably in oil sands
- BSc in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills
- Operational experience in short range mine planning and tailings planning
- Previous experience in oil sands is an asset
- Proficient with use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with AutoCAD or any commercial mine design and planning software package would be an asset
- Ability and willingness to work with Operations personnel
