Chief Estimator

Position Summary:

• Oversees the estimates of 5 to 7 estimators checking for accuracy, approach to the projects, subcontractor choices, specification compliance, overall risk, profitability and scheduling. Maintain a master schedule of incoming projects and assign work load for estimating staff. Assure successful bids are entered in the job cost system and monitor and flag cost overruns on projects and report to field and estimating staff on overruns. Monitor material, trucking and labor cost associated with project and make sure changes are current. Maintain backlog report. Assure customer communication is maintained prior to and during construction. Review project closeout and final billing. Monitor work in progress report and change orders and assure that they are authorized, completed and billed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent experience
• 8+ years in construction industry, specifically asphalt and paving construction
• Previous experience supervising estimating staff
• Strong customer service, organizational and communication skills
• Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and AutoCAD mapping software
• Some overnight travel
