Controls Engineer

Position Description

• As a Controls Engineer, you will provide technical and engineering support for process control systems at Warrick Power Plant. The support includes hardware, programming, instrumentation, process computers, and related systems. Specific equipment includes distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, human machine interfaces, variable frequency drives, process control computer systems, communication interfaces, and field instrumentation. This position requires on-call support.

Major activities/Key Challenges

• Responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of control systems.
• Continually maintain the general health of all control systems and evaluate/implement modifications as required.
• Provide support for troubleshooting, problem solving, and repair of control systems and associated hardware.
• Support and direct control system capital improvement projects.
• Coordinate controls-related activities with Operations and Maintenance Departments.
• Develop and or review the Planned Maintenance (PM) activities on control and instrumentation systems to ensure all PM’s are correctly aligned with the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) philosophy.
• Work with and train Electrical Maintenance Personnel in the most reliable, safe and efficient methods of controls and instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Complete and document routine Process Control System compliance activities.
• Oversee consultant engineers and contracted labor.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of controls engineering experience.
• Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, electronics, or controls engineering or related degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in troubleshooting control system logic, control circuits, and sequence of events.
• Experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s, Control Net and Device Net networks, Honeywell TDC 3000 Distributed Control Systems, field instrumentation, and process control computing hardware.
• Ability to communicate technical content in verbal and written forms to various audiences.

• Experience with boiler controls preferred
