Senior Substations Engineer (Structural)

My client, global consulting firm who assists public and private clients to plan, develop, design, construct, operate, and maintain critical infrastructure projects around the world, is looking for a Senior Substations Engineer (Structural) (Johannesburg).

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• BSc Civil Engineering degree or diploma
• 7+ years’ experience as a civil engineer

Knowledge/Skills/Requirements:

• At least 2 years in the Power networks/substation industry
• Must be professionally registered with ECSA
• Must be able to train engineering staff to design substation structures and foundations
• Must be able to work within a team
• Must be able to liaise with clients and contractors and do technical presentations
• Must be capable to design substation structures and foundations
• Proficient in the design of substation related foundations and structures
• Working knowledge of Southern African and international best practice use of structural and civil engineering codes and standards relating to the design of substations

• Design substation related structures and foundations
• Assist in the preparation of proposals and tender documents in the Power networks division
• Develop in-house specifications, procedures and tools for the Substation section pertaining to civil/structural engineering
• Manage, train and supervise structural engineers in the Substation section to design transmission line structures
• Mentor a graduate structural engineer towards professional registration
• Travel on occasion to meet clients in Southern Africa or to inspect construction works
