Community Relations Manager – Midwest

Position Description:

Position Purpose:

• This position directs local communications, community outreach and corporate giving programs in the Midwest and Colorado and is based in Evansville, IN.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Direct a range of regional communications including messaging, speech writing, presentation development, publications, regional Intranet development, position papers and other key materials for the Midwest and Colorado regions.
• Serve as a local media liaison. Drive messages, Q&A, news release preparation and development of collateral materials to advance business goals for mine operations, new mine development or expansions; environmental and permitting matters; safety, operations and environmental milestones in both regions.
• Drive boutique internal communications initiatives, which include producing a Midwest quarterly employee newsletter.
• Advance engagement of [Company] employees in the company’s coal advocacy efforts.
• Offer messaging and project support for State of the Company meetings, employee town halls and other company-led special events.
• Contribute to all employee Awards & Recognition announcements, Safety Contacts and articles for the company’s magapaper, Conveyor.
• Implement a community engagement program with business leaders, universities, non-profit organizations and non-governmental organizations.
• Manage company sponsorship of regional events or activities benefiting select Midwest and Colorado communities through education, health, cultural, youth, environmental and historic preservation activities. Liaise with the Colorado Human Resources manager for these activities.
• Manage contributions program and establish beneficial relationships with signature sponsorship partners and grant awardees.
• Manage a database tool that includes frequent qualitative analyses of key constituencies and stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a relevant field with seven to 10 years of communications experience.
• Career experience in a corporate setting and knowledge of the energy industry is a plus.
• The ability to demonstrate solid strategic, project management, writing and technical skills.
• Experience in design and implementation of a community engagement and contributions program.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Power Point.
• The candidate must share a portfolio and demonstrate skills proficiency through a writing exercise.
