Principal Mechanical Engineer

Our client is a leading international EPCM Engineering business, specialising in providing professional multidisciplinary Engineering services to the resources sector. The continued expansion of their EPCM design group, has led to an immediate requirement for experienced and highly motivated Materials Handling Principal Mechanical Engineer. 

About the Role: 

• Ensure quality of specific output of the Mechanical / Piping design section is in line with customer and regulatory authorities needs 
• Provide technical and commercial direction to engineers, design quality overview, design schedules and design budgets 
• Set man-hour budgets for engineering and drafting on projects, recommending additional recourse as required 
• Assist Engineering Manager to assess suitability of staff and identify key resources for projects / studies 
• Assist with professional development planning of engineers and lead designers by sharing of the principals specific skills and knowledge. 
• Act as mentor, providing professional development planning for engineers and designers 
• Motivate and obtain commitment of design personnel to project Quality Assurance and Quality Control requirements 

Key Skills and Requirements: 

• Bachelor Degree or equivalent from a recognised institution essential 
• Design experience in the mining and minerals processing industry 
• An understanding of extractive metallurgy process's and chemical engineering 
• Experience with working with disciplines including plant construction, commissioning and operation. 
• Bulk materials handling experience a requirement. 
• Underground conveyor design background 
• Ability to provide technical overview of drawings 
• Good understanding of Australian and International standards and procedures 
• Attention to detail with regard to drawings and quality checks 
• Engineering calculation and documentation checks 
• Good coordination skills 
• Ability to provide technical direction to Engineering team 
• Ability to create confidence and buy in, to processes 
• Motivate and lead teams 
• Ability to interact with multidisciplinary design teams
