Senior Manager: Metallurgy

An exciting position exists for a Senior Manager Metallurgy!

The Senior Manager: Metallurgy will be accountable for the development and implementation effective and efficient process designs and design standards across the various projects.  Will be required to coordinate the process design function across multiple projects.

To set design standards and lead the Specialist: Lead Process Engineers and companies to achieve effective and efficient process designs. The Metallurgical Manager assists in the planning and execution of all process designs associated with the various projects and operations.

Skills / Edu / Exp

• Tertiary qualification in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution.
• A minimum of 8 years’ industry experience with exposure to ideally both operational and technical environments.
• Sound knowledge of Metallurgical test work protocols and the Process Design discipline.
• Experience in the planning and execution of process designs as part of large scale projects.
• Good understanding of the different unit processes in gold extraction.
• Experience in equipment trade-offs and selection. Good working knowledge of the different equipment associated with gold plants
• Operational experience with regards to budget setting, plant staffing requirements, unit costs and plant management.
• Good facilitation, presentation and communications skills (verbal and written).
• A track record of achieving deadlines, planning and execution of project activities.
• Competency in the MS Office Suite Package

The candidate should be strategic thinking, self motivated, service orientated, enthusiastic and a good communicator. The candidate must be willing to become an integral part of the Planning & Business Development team, but also be able to work independently with minimal supervision in remote environments.

The candidate would be able to lead a team of professional metallurgists and engineers to achieve set targets and effective process designs. It is essential that the candidate has the ability to liaise with people from different cultural groups and at all levels within the organisation, and would exercise a high level of professionalism in all aspects of the role. The candidate should also be prepared to travel globally, as required by the role, and often to remote locations.

Duties

• Review and approve metallurgical test work programs for all projects to determine the optimal process route.
• Review and approve metallurgical test work programs to determine specific design criteria.
• Build a network of professionals that can perform be utilized to review and verify critical design criteria, equipment sizing and specifications.
• Build relationships with the key equipment suppliers
• Build and maintain relationships with the various EPCM companies.
• Develop process design standards and implement across the portfolio.
• Review process design budgets and advise the project managers accordingly.
• Maintain a database of processing costs across the region.
• Facilitate appropriate communication between different disciplines (mining, metallurgy, geology and environmental).
• Liaise with Business & Technical Development and GeoMetallurgy function to ensure the Process Design function is aligned with them.
• Facilitate / conduct or participate in Project reviews, Design Safe, Constructability reviews and risk assessments.
