Senior Safety Advisor

  • FIFO roster based in Tropical New Caledonia
Our client, The Koniambo Nickel project, is a greenfield pyrometallurgical facility in New Caledonia designed to develop one of the world’s largest and highest-grade nickel laterite deposits. Situated in the South Pacific, the island is lapped by tropical waters and fringed with golden sands.
 
The Senior Safety Advisor will integrate with existing teams and maintain clear relationships with all stakeholders; carry out physical tasks related to construction and ramp up;offer practical support to teams throughout all phases of the project; and make decisions / perform their duties in a culturally sensitive manner. The successful candidate will liaise effectively with management then link teams and individual supervisors to linear targets related to procedure and management
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Implement the site Health & Safety procedure, and, Safety Management Procedure and ensure the work is in compliance with the Project Safety Management System and delivery approach
  • Promote a culture in which Safety is a prime concern and will never be compromised
  • Provide assistance for supervisors in relation to Health and Safety requirements and expectations
  • Help to prepare and review :  method Statements, JSA’s, incident reports,  departmental reports and summary statistics, etc. 
  • Contribute to the development and execution of pre-established and future health and safety programmes
Qualifications and Experience:
  • The position requires a Safety professional with a strong background in project and commissioning Health and Safety activities
  • 10 -15 years experience in Health and Safety, with at least 3 years of on-site experience on major construction projects
  • Experience with molten metal  and/or concrete plants
  • Fluent English is essential and strong working knowledge of French highly desirable
  • Ability to motivate on site personnel and contractor teams in Health and Safety 
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in and report in a team environment
  • BTS/ technical diploma (safety, maintenance) is desired
This is a FIFO position. The number of days on / off will depend on the applicant’s Point of Hire.
