Project Delivery Manager

Highly reputable mining company in the Northern Cape requires a Programme Manager to manage the Project Development group in order to achieve business objectives. This challenging and rewarding role will be responsible for leading the provision of a full range of engineering and project services, to safely deliver the best business solutions for the opencast mine

Minimum Requirements

  • BEng Degree or BSc Engineering / relevant qualifications
  • National Diploma: Project Management (preferable)
  • 5 - 10 Years relevant experience
  • Demonstrate understanding of the different stages of safety maturity of an organisation and apply techniques that improve people’s safety maturity
  • Apply safety, health and environmental principles and procedures in a workplace
  • Demonstrate understanding of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation in the workplace
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment within a workplace
  • Demonstrate an understanding of quality requirements for a Quality Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001, AS 4801) and apply Quality management principles and procedures in the workplace
  • Demonstrate an awareness of customer service and apply the skills of customer care in a specific work environment
  • Operating computer systems: MS Office (Excel, Word, powerpoint, Outlook), SAP, MSS (Manager Self Services), ESS (Employee Self Services), PEP Tool, PPM and autocad
  • Apply Return on Investment (ROI) and Net Present Value (NPV) theory and practice to a Project
  • Determine project cost and schedule performance using earned value management techniques
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and provide assistance for risk analysis functions
  • Explain fundamentals of project management
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the aspects of the project cycle and the project support services environment

Job Specification

  • Develop and implement a strategy and action plans for the Projects Function in consultation with the General Manager and Leadership Team
  • Plan strategically to improve business performance and assist with the long-term Business Unit strategic plans
  • Develop and refine the Project Portfolio strategy and oversee the execution of the Project Portfolio
  • Manage the corporate relationship with major Engineering Procurement Construction Manager's (EPCM) and major contracting groups
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Create opportunities for innovation and lead projects to meet innovative ideas
  • Provide direction and review performance of the Study and Implementation Contractor teams
  • Plan, organise and support Project meetings and workshops and manage project communications and stakeholder relations for Projects
  • Provide assistance in implementing and assuring Project work meets quality requirements
  • Identify, organise and co-ordinate Project life cycle phases for control purposes
  • Provide technical support for Project cost control, estimating service and planning and scheduling service functions
  • Ensure engineering design and installation complies with standards (company and Country specific)
  • Manage Project commercial requirements (Contractors Procure-To-Pay)
  • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for Projects or Sub Projects and monitor and control actual cost against budget
  • Conduct effective Cost Benefit Analyses on capital Projects
  • Forecast Project completion costs (monthly) and compile Project Cash Flow forecasts and commitments
  • Manage risks on complex Projects and contribute to the management of Project risk within own field of expertise
  • Review Project Initiation Applications (PIA's) and investigate Project opportunities
  • Establish Project or Project phases and the processes for simple to moderately complex Projects
  • Manage the Projects approval process
  • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control
  • Develop integrated Project Execution Plans and develop schedules to facilitate effective Project execution
  • Monitor, evaluate and communicate Project schedules
  • Manage multiple projects and oversee Project teams of Developmental and Technical Projects to deliver project objectives
  • Assess progress of Project Contractors against Project schedules and reconcile Contractor Payments against Bill Of Quantities
  • Manage Project Scope Changes
  • Compile and review Specifications and Tender submissions and approve Specifications and Tender submissions
  • Evaluate and adjudicate Tenders (in conjunction Supply or EPCM) and provide procurement administration support to Projects
  • Coordinate and conduct the closure of major Projects and approve Project closures
  • Compile Project Portfolio Reports
  • Manage Business Improvement processes
  • Conduct regular Results and Progress Management (RPM's) meetings as per schedule and actively participate in team Results and Progress Management (RPM's) meetings
