Position: Lead Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer - Mining

Area: Johannesburg

Project: Based at Head office, but will have to do site visits

Duration: Permanent

Salary: Negotiable based on experience & qualifications

Job Purpose:

• Execute & manage the engineering, technical and commercial issues on all Electrical and Instrumentation related work on projects
• Manage the interface between the companies’ Electrical and Instrumentation sub-contractors and the project team, and to ensure that the sub-contractors meet all programme and quality requirements.
• Manage the allocation of electrical and instrumentation design work related to projects, to the in-house designers and to outsource work where necessary.
• Engineering design work
• Bills of quantities and technical specifications to be drawn-up for the estimators to do accurate tender estimates.

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric and B Tech (or B Eng)
• Registration as a Pr. Eng (or Pr. Tech) is preferred. The candidate must be capable of registering
• Previous experience in similar position (5 to 8 years minimum)

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical and Instrumentation engineering, design and other E&I engineering outputs on designated projects (coordination and management of all E&I related work on projects, including, but not limited to:

• Verification of Electrical and Instrumentation design
• Verification of QA and inspection procedures of sub-contractors & suppliers and site installations
• Ensure that all engineering and designs are in compliance with the company’s safety management program & valid legislation and rules.
• Implement the company’s Engineering Strategy and policies
• Ensure that engineering systems and procedures are strictly adhered to
• Assist in planning, development and implementation of engineering processes, systems and capabilities
• Manage and control project and engineering costs within the project budget and time frame
• Develop and maintain a team-work environment in the Project Team and Engineering Department
• Participate actively in Project kick off/handing over meetings to ensure that all needed technical information and date from the sales to the execution team will be available and transferred properly with relevant documentation (relevant to possible future projects)
• Identify and management of engineering/project risks
• Assist the procurement department to select suitable local contractors for the supply of equipment

Evaluate Potential

• Assist the procurement department with the technical content of the enquiry documents or orders and technical adjudication of tenders
• Assist other departments, where required, on technical matters, or discussions of a technical nature with clients
• To mentor and coach junior engineers in the basic concepts of the application, design, detail, construction, erection and commissioning of Electrical and Instrumentation plant equipment
