Mechanical Design Drafter
Brief Description
- Designs, tests, and evaluates creation of and improvements to mechanical and electro-mechanical products and parts. Under supervision, performs product development activities including layout, interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.
Detailed Description
- Creates Solid works models of new designs.
- Generates CADD drawings from solid models or directly from ACAD.
- Designs moderately complex new products and parts, and designs improvements to existing products and parts based on customer, marketing, and engineering specifications.
- Tests new and modified designs for reliability and manufacturability, verifies parts and product conformance to performance specifications.
- Assists in getting new designs to fabrication.
- Documents design work and writes test reports.
- Entering and retrieving design records and data from electronic database systems.
- May provides technical support once the design has been released to fabrication.
Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- Associates Degree preferred in mechanical engineering and one to two years progressive experience in mechanical engineering design; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, engineers, clients, and customers.
Mathematical Skills:
- Applied engineering mathematics, statistics, and business and economic analysis.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate a computer and use spreadsheet, database, word processing, CADD, 3-D and solid modeling software. Knowledge of structural mechanics, materials science, and materials capabilities. Ability to develop and execute design of experiments.
