Technical Specialist

Work the best of both worlds. Gain experience working in the office and onsite as a Technical Specialist for one of Canada’s leading construction and infrastructure development companies. In two years or less, you will increase your knowledge of Project Control functions and be proficient in supporting the coordination between project team and the client. You will be responsible for providing the technical support for the project team and making sure that the team is properly communicating, and being able to deliver the project work as planned. This experience will lead to an opportunity as a Project Manager.

Core Responsibilities

  • Act as a project liaison between the client, subcontractors, and project team.
  • Generate requests for design changes, clarifications, and technical/engineering issues with the clients/subcontractors by preparing RFI’s and NCR’s using L&H “Integrated Construction Management System” (ICMS).
  • Participate in setting up the cost code structure of the project (i.e. accounting codes).
  • Participate in setting up project information and cost codes in ICMS.
  • Prepare subcontractor packages including scope, terms and conditions, negotiated agreement for submission and purchasing.
  • Prepare cost estimates for any scope changes/trends.
  • Coordinate the project team and maintain the engineering support for the fieldwork to ensure effective flow of work.
  • Supervise the team responsible for developing the field installation work packages.
  • Review and analyze the project scheduling and cost reports and suggest corrective actions to maintain the project within anticipated cost and schedule.

Qualifications And Skill

  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Ability to read schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
  • Bachelor of Science (Engineering discipline) or C.E.T.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Organizational skills in order to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment.
  • Able to travel to remote job or work location and staying out of town as required.
  • Variety of jobsite conditions (tunnels, quarries, mines, trenches/excavations, high rise, industrial facilities)
