Piping Designers

Our client is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of quality electrical products including electrical motors, transformers and power cables.The primary distribution has continued to proactively cater to the mining, power generation, manufacturing and petrochemical industries. They employ in excess of 6 000 people. It has 27 operating units, 22 production facilities and 25 distribution centres throughout South Africa.

• The Arrangement Designer has the technical and time schedule responsibility to create (mainly 3D model) & supply (mainly drawings) to the different Customers (internal or external) the Arrangement information as assigned by the Arrangement Lead Engineer.
• Create or participate to the 3D Model Architecture
• Prepare the “Basic Input data sheets” per work unit as defined
• Create the Arrangement of the following 3D elements inside the 3D Model, in line with the P&ID & the Piping Class Manual requirements
• the Working Instructions and the Rules of Art
• Equipment
• Civil & steel structures
• Piping & valves
• From the 3D Model, extract, complete and edit the Arrangement drawings
• (GA, CG, PA, PT, …)
• Comply with the forecast dates for information & drawings submission. Provide information to prepare the flat-file to follow-up the arrangement design progress upon request by L.E.
• Estimate preliminary loads to release early the civil & steel structures detail design
• Estimate the Piping length and elbow numbers to release the MTO 1
• Check & comment external documents (Partners, Civil & steel structures, Products, …)
• Manage & check the interface data (type, dimensions, location, …)
• Participate to or assume the follow-up of piping detail subcontracted studies
• Coordinate his job with the other team members and report to the Project Authorities and/or the Line Management
• Inform Process Lead Engineer of any difficulties regarding adaptation of manpower according to the needs.
• React to any missing information
• React to any site requirements and assume the necessary tasks to operate the NCR processing.
• Input the as-built information inside the 3D Model and Arrangement drawings.
• Analyse of client’s comments and prepare answers duly argued.
• Participate to the design review and the design freeze.
• Ensure experience feedback from the project.
• Help to solve the closeout of the punch item list to obtain PAC and FAC and to organize archive of final documentation.

Qualification, Competencies & Experience:

Education

• Minimum Engineering Degree appropriates to the technical field involved or long years of relevant experience.
• Specific knowledge and skills
• Know and apply the design methods and rules for arrangement including a good understanding over the fences!
• Familiar with the Products & Equipment. Basic knowledge of the thermal process and with the civil design & steel structures.
• Experienced in the application of 3D model tools (PDMS, …) and 2D software (AUTOCAD, Microstation, …)
• Ability to communicate verbal and in written English.
