Project Director

Our client, an ASX listed company providing a range of services to the mining and resource sectors in Australia. With a strong reputation built on excellence they are growing rapidly with various projects throughout Australia.
The Project Director is accountable for ensuring that the mining project is successfully completed within budget, on time and in accordance with contract and company requirements by providing direct leadership, management, commercial and contractual support to the project line management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that the progress of the mining project is accurately recorded and reported.
  • Review on an ongoing basis the projects performance against tendered performance.
  • Analyse the project performance and implement improvement initiatives against measurable KPI's.
  • Liaise and train mining personnel in the proficient use of applicable mining software.
  • Participate in the mining project launch meetings and ensure relevant commercial tender information is known.
  • Ensure that major and critical suppliers are closely monitored.
  • Ensure sufficient project controls are in place to accurately monitor project performance against costs and program.
  • Provide specific engineering support for the mining project to target continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the preparation of the project program and budget.
  • Assist with the preparation of the mining project forecasts.
  • Assist mining management with the preparation of monthly contract valuations.
  • Review mining project performance and recommend initiatives to deliver best practise and incorporation of leading edge technology.
  • Ensure that all documents associated with subcontracts and major purchases are
    properly reviewed and/or approved for use.
  • Represent the company for all activities associated with the project.

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Tertiary degree business / engineering / mining discipline.
  • Thorough working knowledge of financial, budgeting and costing systems.
  • Working knowledge of estimating practice and conventions.
  • Extensive experience in project management of mining projects.
  • Experience in quality, safety, environmental, personnel, commercial and contract management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability.
  • Good interpersonal and management skills.
