IT Systems Administrator / Sr. Systems Administrator
Department Description
- The System Administrator’s role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company servers and related components in accordance with [Company] global standards and policies. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring and installing/upgrading software/hardware, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. This position is a member of [Company] IT/IS team reporting to the local site IT manager.
Detailed Description
- Collaborate with local staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Act as local project lead in the design, review, and implementation of new server systems, applications, and hardware in conjunction with [Company] standards and best practices
- Interface/collaborate with [Company] Global IT Servicedesk and global IT/IS resource personnel in actively resolving escalated customer problems/concerns.
- Support and deploy new applications and/or enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
- Plan/implement server upgrades patches and backups/recovery
- Monitor, test, and report on system performance; conduct capacity planning as needed
- Create scripts (Batch, VBScript, PowerShell, etc.) to automate administrative tasks
- Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
Job Requirements
- University degree in computer science or similar, and/or 7 years equivalent work experience.
- Previous management/supervisory experience
- Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products.
- Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
- Strong knowledge of MS Windows Server and Desktop Architecture, Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, and DHCP
- Strong Experience with VMWare, iSCSI SAN, Fiber Channel SAN and WAN
- Experience with Microsoft Exchange (2003-2010)
- Experience with Databases (i.e. MS SQL and Oracle)
- Experience with Citrix Presentation Server and Xen products
- Excellent software troubleshooting experience.
- Extensive application support experience.
- Competence with testing, flowchart, and data mapping tools and procedures.
- Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Good project management skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Other Requirements:
- 40-hour on-site work week with on-call availability as required for unplanned outages.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
- Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
- Must be willing to work some nights/weekends to provide routine maintenance during schedules service windows.
