Responsibilities:
- Candidates at a variety of technician levels are encouraged to apply - from entry level to experienced technicians. Recent BSCE graduates with materials testing classes and an EIT will be considered.
- If hired for this position you will work in our Specialty Testing Group. You will be involved with field observation, inspection, testing and sampling of soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, structural steel, and asphalt placement, and other administrative duties, as required in the greater Washington D.C. area. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to: destructive and non-destructive investigations including operating electric, pneumatic and powder actuated tools; performing ground penetrating radar (GPR) structural surveys; pavement condition surveys; concrete sawing, coring and chipping; excavating; and construction materials observation and testing. This is a hands-on, field position that requires the ability to adapt to variable field conditions. Must be responsible and reliable. For this position you must be able to pass a background check for access to secure work sites.
- Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians and project managers. [Company] will train candidates in our methodology to perform observations, inspections and tests of building construction projects and to document findings in accordance with accepted engineering practice, but you should have a sound understanding of building construction practices. As experience increases, [Company] will encourage and aid technicians in increasing level of competence and skills through internal training programs and external programs of certification provided by ACI, ASNT, AWS, ICC, NICET, NRCA, RCI, State DOT, WACEL and others, as appropriate.
- Local candidates preferred; no relocation is available for technician positions.
Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 0-2+ years relevant experience.
- Recent BSCE graduates with EIT will be considered.
- Must be able to pass background check for access to secure work sites. Only US citizens and Permanent Residents will be considered.
- Perform hands-on work with an ability for adapting to variable field conditions while maintaining quality requirements and following standard procedures.
- Must be available to work nights/weekends as necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry large and heavy equipment and perform physically demanding skilled labor tasks.
- Technician Certification [minimum] - Three basic certifications (radiation safety for nuclear density gauge, basic concrete and basic soils) are required within 90 days of hire. More advanced certifications may be considered in-lieu of basic certifications.
- Solid communication skills (written and verbal).
