Specialty Services Technician (Steel)

Responsibilities:

• If hired for this position you will work in our Specialty Testing Group. Responsibilities include performing load testing of anchors for high profile projects in Washington, DC/northern Virginia. The position requires the ability to maneuver and position a steel reaction frame (≈ 30 pounds), applying load with a hydraulic cylinder and hand pump, and measuring anchor movement with a dial gauge.  Results are input to a tablet PC each day and uploaded to our office for inclusion in a daily field report. Strong communication skills to coordinate with the general contractor and with other trades on site are required.
• This is a hands-on field position that requires the ability to adapt to variable field conditions. Must be responsible and reliable. For this position you must be able to pass a background check for access to secure work sites.
• Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians and project managers. [Company] will train candidates in our methodology to perform observations, inspections and tests of building construction projects and to document findings in accordance with accepted engineering practice, but you should have a sound understanding of building construction practices. As experience increases, [Company] will encourage and aid technicians in increasing level of competence and skills through internal training programs and external programs of certification provided by ACI, ASNT, AWS, ICC, NICET, NRCA, RCI, State DOT, WACEL and others, as appropriate.
• Local candidates preferred; no relocation is available for technician positions.

Qualifications:

• Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. BSCE graduates will be considered.
• 0-2+ years relevant experience.
• Must be able to pass background check for access to secure work sites. Only US citizens and Permanent Residents will be considered.
• Perform hands-on work with an ability for adapting to variable field conditions while maintaining quality requirements and following standard procedures.
• Must be available to work nights/weekends as necessary.
• Ability to lift and carry large and heavy equipment and perform physically demanding skilled labor tasks.
• Technician Certification [minimum] - Three basic certifications (radiation safety for nuclear density gauge, basic concrete and basic soils) are required within 90 days of hire.  More advanced certifications may be considered in-lieu of basic certifications.
• Solid communication skills (written and verbal).
