Senior Buyer

Description:

  • Responsible for annual purchases in excess of $100 million of parts and services assigned by manager.
  • Accountable for inventory of assigned commodities in excess of $20 million per month.
  • Assists in supervision of 3-4 support staff as may be required (Technicians, expeditors, planners, etc.).
  • Purchases assigned production components, commodities, and supplies at optimum cost in the required quality and quantity to meet customer requirements.
  • Expedite as required those critical items needed by the production line, shipping, or service and relay information as required to insure timely shipment of product.
  • Control inventory by reducing lead times, reducing early receipts, maintaining item default data, and rescheduling open orders as required to maintain minimum levels. Includes disposition of excess/obsolete inventory.
  • Interface with Production Control, Engineering, Accounting, Plant Supervision, QA, QC , Receiving, and suppliers to maintain timely deliveries, quality, and competitively costed items for assigned commodities.
  • Develop and maintain a global supplier base, review supplier performance reports, and meet, visit, or otherwise communicate with to insure company goals of QCDS are met.
  • Work with suppliers to keep abreast of new MIS technology; includes e-commerce data transfer, bar coding, and electronic exchange of information , delivery dates, etc.
  • Review and settle claims with suppliers that arise as a result of defective material, untimely delivery and lost or incorrect shipments, and warranty claims, including supplier recovery for same.
  • Initiate, develop, pursue, and implement cost reductions to help company provide competitively priced products and record and maintain accurate cost information for annual standard cost updates.
  • Maintain records of supplier performance, tooling at suppliers, and purchasing contracts or agreements to be used when resourcing, eliminating, or negotiating with suppliers.
  • Communicate promptly to all involved[Company] management any significant changes in supplier''s organization, ownership, capacity, financial position, or business direction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Industrial Management or related discipline plus 3 to 5 years’ experience in Purchasing or Materials Management, OR 7-9 years of related industrial experience.
  • Experience and understanding in MRP and other computer systems associated with purchasing, inventory management, and financial analysis. Proficiency in Excel, Word and Lotus Notes a must.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with manufacturing operations including machining, fabrication, assembly and logistics.
