Principal Geochemist

Lead, develop and expand the company's existing geochemical services related mostly to the mining industry.

Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the geochemistry hub within the area operations
  • Effective business development and client liaison to assist in expansion of the existing client base
  • Provide consulting services in the Geochemistry arena – for various mines and commodities and involving for example mine waste and tailings characterization, planning and design, hydrochemistry, mining plans, mine closure planning, and risk assessment
  • Lead and manage geochemistry projects
  • Enhance the quality of the teams technical work and project deliverables by developing and building skills by providing technical guidance and mentoring
  • Review and oversee project work, identifying areas and opportunities for training if required
  • Ensure all employee development, training and PDR requirements are met
  • Plan resources and link in with the other Hub leaders in the Group
  • Develop and build the Hub in conjunction with Group Managers
  • Provide input into the strategy and business plan for the Hub and the Group
  • Help identify and recruit high quality staff for the Hub in consultation with Human Development Group (HD)
  • Assist the RGM to develop and provide services to clients and to establish and maintain business networks
  • Assist in the financial management of the hub as appropriate by managing and driving productivity
  • Involvement in the company's international geochemistry technical community through active participation, contribution and leadership; and
  • Domestic and international travel including occasional visits to remote and varying environments
Skill set
The preferred candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as a Bachelor of Science in relevant disciplines such as geology, geochemistry, chemistry and chemical engineering. A post graduate qualification would be desirable.
  • Strong and demonstrable oral and written communication skills in English
  • Sound project management skills
  • Knowledge and experience with the applicable Australian and international ARD regulations and guidelines;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse team environment; and
  • Previous consulting experience is a desirable asset
