Process Engineering Intern

Description and Desired Qualifications

• Our Process Engineering Intern jobs provide you with an opportunity to work on state of the art industrial manufacturing facilities. Each day you will perform the routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principals. You should be a self-motivated, team-focused individual that is currently enrolled in a chemical engineering program and has the desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each new project.

Our Process Engineering Interns will participate in:

• Equipment Specifications – Help Process engineers prepare equipment specifications for the bidding or purchase of equipment. This includes adapting existing specs to the project as well as developing specs for new types of equipment. This gives the co-op exposure to a wide variety process equipment as well a chance to become more familiar with common equipment like pumps and heat exchangers.
• Process Calculations – Perform calculations needed to size equipment and piping systems. This includes anything from hand calculations to running hydraulic simulations in certain design software.
• Drafting – Creating and editing Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs). Most of the drafting is done in AutoCAD and MicroStation. Experience with this software is beneficial, but these skills can be picked up fairly easily by students with general software skills.
• Calling Vendors – The co-op often contacts vendors to get equipment quotes or to ask follow-up questions for one of the Process engineers.
• Development and Checking of Design Deliverables – There are many documents that must be created for each project. The co-op helps to create these documents and to check them against the P&IDs as well as other disciplines' deliverables. This helps the co-op get a feel for how a certain process runs and what to look out for when designing a new system.
• Site Visits - Many co-ops get an opportunity to visit one or two of the client sites. For a student that has not worked in a plant before, this is EXCELLENT hands-on experience that cannot easily be matched in an office setting.

Basic Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Chemical Engineering program
• Must have completed sophomore year as a minimum

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Co-op / Internship experience
• Familiar with AutoCAD
