Senior Geotechnical Engineer

This successful underground coal mine is producing up to 5.5 million tonnes a year of coking coal and thermal coal for export. The project site is within the northern region of the Bowen Basin, approximately 175km west of Mackay, located on the northern side of the Peak Downs Highway. Longwall methods are being used to extract the coal from the Leichhardt Seam of the Rangal Coal Measures.  

Your Responsibilities will be:

• Deliver the work plan agreed for the project under development 
• Judgment to correct the shortcomings using the most appropriate methods and technologies 
• Effectively implement and adapt geotechnical plans to meet the operational needs of the mining operation 
• Ground support designs and advice on the stability of mine designs 
• Judgment to select the most appropriate means to reduce seismic risk 
• The ability to analyse data over time, to ensure ground support quality meets the prescribed standards 
• Supervision of ground support quality control and testing programs. 

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Tertiary degree in Geology and Mining Engineering or of course Geotechnical Engineering 
• Worked in Geotechnical and Hydro resources for at least 5-7 with some of this time underground. 
• Proficient and experienced in Geotechnical software like Rocscience plus other software such as Vulcan, Autocad and ArcGis would be very advantages. 
• Desired knowledge in at least 4 of the following also in your favour, Tailings and waste disposal, slope design and underground mine planning, hydrogeology, hydrology, acid mine drainage assessment.
