Health, Safety & Environment Manager- Mining Division

An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced senior level Mining Health & Safety Manager to take a key leadership role in one of their of their key mining operations in the Northern Ontario. The role is a strategic Management position within their Health, Safety & Environment division and would be responsible for managing, training and coaching a team of Health & Safety Coordinators as well as updating Safety Training Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Manage, train and coach a team of Health, Safety and Environmental specialists
• Lead and participate in Health and Safety audits and work area inspections;
• Be responsible for the development, implementation, and review of safety and health policies and programs
• Responsible for ensuring all site personnel comply with Company safety policies, procedures, standards, and statutory requirements
• Responsibility for mine site accident investigations, risk and hazard analysis and formulation of preventative safety measures
• Manage the environment and permitting team and approvals process
• Ensure all site mining personnel participate in and adopt safe working practices as part of their daily duties and responsibilities
• Facilitate and educate line management and workforce personnel in the application of required procedures, policies and site conduct
• Provide advice to mining personnel on risk management strategies and processes;
• Review and contribute to the ongoing development of Safety Management Plans, project safety policies and procedures
• Preparation and submission of working cost and capital budgets, based on program requirements, and control expenditures within approved parameters;
• Provide input to safety training presentations provided by the safety department and assist with training delivery where required
• Audit, monitor and provide assessment for all safety and health programs to ensure compliance is achieved through risk assessment and controlling the hazards and related energies

Requirements:

• Relevant university degree or diploma in industrial Health, Safety & Environment
• Extensive experience working as a Senior Health, Safety & Environment Manager specifically within the mining sector
• Minimum of  10 years of HSE experience, including formulation of HSE policy, audits and environmental permits
• 5+ years of managerial experience
• Advance HSE regulatory knowledge in the Ontario mining industry and experience working in a remote mine setting is crucial for this role
• Must have excellent knowledge of the relevant HSE legislation in Ontario
• Possess a high level of communication skill, capable of conversing at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders
