Heritage Liaison Officer

Based in Dampier, the primary purpose of this role is to establish and maintain an excellent working relationship both internal and external (especially with Traditional Land Owners and consultants). 

A key component of the role is the ability to work with and understand traditional owner's culture. 

In this role the Heritage Liaison Officers will spend extended periods of time away from home (10-12 days at a time) while managing the heritage surveys.

The Heritage Liaison Officers assists in managing the logistics for consultants and Aboriginal Traditional Owners engaged in surveys. 

The Heritage Liaison Officers must assist survey participants to understand and apply safe working procedures. 

The successful applicant will have a high level of responsibility in the role where they may be visiting remote communities on their own. 

Key duties include:
  • Developing and maintain strong relationships between the company and the Aboriginal communities. 
  • Provide support to Superintendent, Heritage Advisors with the facilitation of heritage surveys.
  • Liaise with Aboriginal communities, representative bodies, consultants and government agencies on heritage matters.
  • Identify areas within existing heritage systems for improvement or development. 
  • Implement safety systems and internal procedures that support the Heritage Program. 
Candidates with the following are encouraged to apply:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and awareness of Aboriginal culture 
  • Ability to perform in a team environment 
  • Current 'C' class driver's licence 
  • Computer literacy 
  • Good planning skills 
  • Able to work autonomously
