General Maintenance Supervisor Shoemaker Mine

Position Summary

• Provides overall management for the mine's maintenance department. Provides direction to ensure a safe work environment, low maintenance costs and high equipment availability.

Target Responsibilities

• Plans efficient maintenance activities and procedures that safely optimize staffing and equipment availability.
• Identifies target objectives, develops plans to achieve the objectives and monitors plan and results.
• Works with the Shift Foreman and first-line Foreman to ensure that all safety, equipment availability and cost objectives are met or exceeded for the department and knows the status of these numbers on a day-to-day basis.
• Communicates maintenance schedules, changes and company policies and procedures to supervisors & employees.
• Works closely with the Mine Foreman and/or General Mine Foreman to minimize downtime and develop and execute efficient maintenance plans.
• Works with Superintendent to prepare short and long term capital and operating budgets. Monitors budgets on an ongoing basis.
• Works with all management staff regarding all safety related activities, including: the effectiveness of health and safety programs and compliance with all applicable health and safety laws, regulations and policies.
• Leads and encourages continuous improvement projects. In cooperation with the Mine Superintendent and/or Assistant
• Superintendent, continuously analyzes mine maintenance performance and opportunities for improvement.
• Work with the Supervisor of Human Resources and mine management to resolve industrial and employee relations issues, schedule training, coordinate employee communications, and resolve conflicts and grievances.
• Monitors staffing requirements and ensures that employees are properly trained.
• Researches new equipment and machinery.
• Works with Warehouse Supervisor to ensure the proper procurement and distribution of equipment and supplies, making sure the needed supplies are available.
• Ensures that maintenance work is documented and that maintenance records and maps are retained as appropriate.
• Works with Office Manager/Mine Clerk to make sure all payroll, accounting and reporting systems are correct.
• May assume the duties of direct supervisor due to absence.

Minimum Requirements

• Requires a High School diploma, 2 year electrical or mechanical technical degree and 10 or more years of experience in mine operations and electrical/mechanical maintenance; or undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related filed and 8-10 years of experience in mine operations and electrical/mechanical maintenance.
• Requires thorough knowledge of coal mining operations; including safety, production, maintenance, economics, and equipment usage and staff utilization.
• Requires supervisory and management skills and experience.
• Requires special certifications, which may include electrical, mine foreman, fireboss, rescue and first aid. MSHA electrical qualification, WV/PA Mine Electrician certification if applicable.
• Must possess effective verbal communication skills.
• Must have basic computer skills including familiarity to SAP, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
