Project Control Specialist

OEC Industrial Project Services Ltd. (OEC) is an independent consulting firm that provides industrial expertise & knowledge in the areas of industrial construction estimating, project controls and construction management. The results are an unbiased opinion of the project based on current construction industry standards within Alberta. OEC offers services in a variety of industrial markets including oil & gas, petrochemical, power plants and mining.

Our services meet the unique needs and requirements of each client and project. Our assignments range from comprehensive and detailed management services required through the full life cycle of a project to specific tasks of short duration to alleviate the pressure points of a project.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate information to the project team in a timely manner while following Project Controls standards and procedures as well as the project execution plan.
  • Review estimates with estimators and develop budgets to be used for control of the project using applicable work and cost breakdown structures.
  • Collect, assemble and analyze incurred, actual and committed costs against the control budgets. Forecast final costs based on analysis.
  • Develop a logic based schedule that reflects the work scope and execution strategies for the project. Maintain and update schedule on a regular basis and identify critical path activities, potential risks and possible solutions to mitigate schedule slippages.
  • Develop and implement a progress measurement system to validate actual progress achieved on the project. Use this information to analyze project performance in both cost and schedule.
  • Help identify and evaluate changes in work scope and/or execution as they arise. Manage and maintain change order process and log. Implement approved changes into budgets, schedules and progress measurement system.
  • Work closely with contractors to validate the information reported.
  • Compile information for monthly reports.
  • Assist with project close-out.

Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of Project Controls experience in cost controls, scheduling and/or estimating.
  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and/or diploma in Civil, Construction and Mechanical Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years of industrial construction experience, preferably with some in the field.
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills (experience with Primavera, Microsoft Excel and Word is beneficial).
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Candidates must possess a strong work ethic.
  • Work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
