Finite Element Analyst - Mining Equipment

Description:

  • This position will conduct various analysis projects to develop new products and provide analysis support to existing products by conducting a variety of simulations and analyses using computer aided engineering (CAE) tools, established procedures when standards are sometimes lacking, and demonstrate the relative merits of alternative designs. Job functions for this position include, and are not limited to the following: Use state of the art structural analysis and multibody dynamics tools in the process of developing new electric rope shovels, assisting manufacturing in production issues, and aiding reliability functions in the analysis of field service problems. Use physical test and field service data to enhance analysis results, and participate in team level product decision-making processes. This person will also be part of a team of analysts working on developing advanced computer aided engineering (CAE) methods and procedures for developing new products as well as supporting existing product improvements.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • MSME or equivalent degree with minimum of four years of structural analysis experience or, BSME or equivalent degree with six years of experience specializing in structural analysis in the heavy machinery and/or transportation industry.
  • Advanced analytical skills are a MUST.
  • Knowledge of FEA software (such as Nastran, ABAQUS, ANSYS), experimental stress analysis, vibration analysis, fatigue life analysis and the use of PC based software and programming.
  • Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the drive to provide rapid, customer-focused response.

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience using FEA pre/post processors such as Hypermesh and/or Ansys Workbench
  • Knowledge of structural materials and strain-based fatigue.
  • Theoretical background/courses in applied mechanics and statistics.
  • Experience interfacing with 3D design software such as SolidWorks and/or ProE.
  • Knowledge of experimental stress measurement and data acquisition methods.
  • Ability to work in a global team environment and lead concept design development
  • Electric rope shovel product knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience of multibody dynamics tools such as MSC ADAMS.
  • Ability to understand/coordinate/use lab and field test results.
  • Initiative and persistence in problem solving.
  • Leadership skills: Time management, customer focus and ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering/Structural Mechanics.
  • Knowledge and experience of structural optimization.
