Health and Safety Coordinator – Eastern US Mining Operations

Summary

  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager but also works with the Corporate Health & Safety and Environmental Affairs teams. Implement and follow Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies as outlined in established Corporate EHS programs as well as support annual and long-term plans in compliance with corporate requirements and relevant laws and regulations. This candidate will function as EHS support and site safety/environmental expert for an underground industrial minerals mining operation. Eastern United States Location. Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and conduct EHS-related training programs appropriate to eliminate or control loss
  • Lead and participate in risk level studies to develop and rank loss scenarios for improvement
  • Conduct JSAs as required on various process equipment and job tasks
  • Audit for compliance with EHS programs, processes and acceptable safe work best practices and progress of implementation of their EHS plans
  • Ability to take the lead in incident investigations
  • Manage site safety/environmental metrics reporting to satisfy internal requirements and regulatory compliance
  • Display and promote positive safety/environmental behaviors at all times
  • Perform other duties as required both inside and outside of EHS scope

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive work experience in various EHS-related functions
  • Degree in a technical EHS discipline preferred
  • Professional certification in field highly desirable (e.g. PE, CSP, CMSP, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of universally accepted EHS practices
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and an excellent knowledge of US DOL MSHA regulations as they relate to the mining industry
  • Must have advanced computing skills in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
