Senior Project Engineer

Our Client is a small International EPCM Company that identifies mining opportunities globally with the aim to turn them into operating companies at the earliest possible time by providing management and delivery expertise. They are currently seeking the services of a Senior Project Engineer with project development experience either obtained from a technical or operations background.

The Position
 
The Senior Project Engineer will be accountable for taking a project from early study through to operations. This will eventually require moving to the country where the project is located, with the initial focus being getting the project into operation whilst representing the company in-country. Our Client is after an individual that is motivated, a self-starter, that has excellent communication skills both written and oral and who is comfortable presenting to their peers and potential Clients. You must drive results by demonstrating what is required, ensuring to meet our clients targets. You must want to be part of a team and be prepared to do as well as manage which will require excellent time management skills. The role will require the individual eventually to relocate to the country in which the project is located to drive the project such that it becomes and operating mine producing a saleable commodity.

We would expect the individual to have had some or all of the following experience:

• Mining experience either designing, building or operating; 
• Defining the scope of work for geologists and engineering companies to undertake; 
• A general knowledge of what it takes to develop a project from early identification through to commissioning and operation; 
• A good understanding of at least one engineering discipline in the mining & metallurgical sector gained through a combination of design, construction or site and operational experience;
• Proficiency in all aspects of a projects development including mine planning, engineering, planning, contract, project controls and operations; 
• Preparation and negotiation of necessary contracts with the Client, Contractor and Suppliers;
• Exposure to many cultures preferably with extensive overseas work in Africa or the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States);
• Exposure to a broad range of mining commodities;
• Maintains good Client relationships both internal and external Clients;
• Strong at developing good team dynamics with a can do attitude;
• Flexible on travel and work location;

Specific requirements will include amongst other things:

• Site visit to undertake investigations into possible opportunities;
• Working with geologists to ensure the resource is clearly defined and the assumptions clearly understood;
• Working with engineering companies to complete the design through all phases of the project; 
• Complete due diligence reports on companies and or projects;
• Preparing feasibility studies;
• Driving the design and construction to minimise start up time;
• Negotiating commercial arrangement with all parties necessary to deliver the project;
• Establishing good internal relationships with government, suppliers, landowners, service industries etc; 

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering or related field from an accredited University;. 
• Must have at Senior Project Engineer level completed mega projects to operational stage;
• 15+ years experience with either major EPCM’s or owner’s teams and have a solid reputation within the industry for completing mega projects to operational stage on time and within budget;
• Africa or CIS cultural adaptability;
