Due to ongoing large scale projects in Alberta multiple opportunities have arisen for senior level Geotechnical Engineers with 8-15 years of experience managing projects within the Oil Sands or Mining sectors.

Job Description

The Senior Geotechnical/ Project Leader is responsible for providing geotechnical project oversight and planning for a comprehensive array of mining, infrastructure and oil & gas projects.

  • Manage and execute projects from conception to completion; including time and budget management and quality control
  • Deliver projects successfully and be accountable for project planning and direction
  • Take a leading technical role on major mining, civil infrastructure and oil & gas projects including: terrain analysis, site investigation, instrumentation installation & monitoring, geohazard risk assessment and control, geo-structure & foundation (deep and shallow) design for facilities, retaining structures & bridges, construction management, and review, design, construction & remediation of water retention facilities
  • Oversee technical project execution pertaining to: dams, tailings containment, dykes, pipelines, civil infrastructure, and/or roads, design, construction, planning and execution
  • Work closely with civil engineering and geological groups to optimize tailings plans Develop detailed tailings deposition models and costs for major mining projects
  • Prepare and review technical reports, drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, cost estimates, containment construction, tailing deposition and regulatory compliance
  • Provide input to feasibility RFP and contractor selection and provide oversight of tailings design contractors, including any necessary field programs
  • Provide technical input into pilot testing, engineering studies, and data collection in order to support technical decisions
  • Develop budgets, policies, and procedures based on project scopes
  • Maintain positive client relationships; Effectively develop new business

Requirements

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related relevant degree
  • Registered (or eligible to register) as a professional engineer
  • Minimum 8-15 years experience required with a preference for working on major mining, civil infrastructure and oil & gas projects
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in all aspects of tailings modeling and design and MS Office Suite applications
  • Considerable mining and/or oil sands tailings operational experience, including dyke and/or dam construction planning and execution would be highly regarded; regulatory exposure also an asset
  • Superior communications skills, both oral and written, including experience creating and making highly effective presentations to senior management
  • Strong organizational, project management, and execution skills, including financial analysis and an ability to manage a small group of employees and/or contractors
  • Demonstrated ability for innovative thinking and flexibility to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced and team-based environment; capable of working effectively at all levels of an organization
