Senior Accountant

Our client, a mining company located in Downtown Vancouver with operations worldwide, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Controller and supervise the work of accounting staff in Vancouver as well as foreign jurisdictions.

The primary roles and responsibilities will include the following:

• Prepare AFRS consolidated financial statements, including working papers, schedules, and note disclosures
• Manage and review journal entries for transactions on a day-to-day basis
• Manage and review journal entries for period-end close procedures
• Meet external audit requirements
• Manage and provide training for a team of local and global accounting staff
• Perform other duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

• Accredited CGA, CMA, or CA
• Three or more years post-designation experience that demonstrates increasing responsibility over time
• Extensive knowledge of Simply Accounting and a quick learner to build proficiency in other software
• Strong computer skills such as MS Office Suite are required, particularly in Word and Excel
• Proven track record of experience meeting public company financial reporting and other disclosure requirements
• Experience in a multi-company and multi-currency corporate environment
• Experience in the mining industry is considered an asset
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to manage a demanding workload while identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner
• Strong attention to detail and consistent accuracy
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work as an effective team member as well as independently
• Desire to take on challenges, deliver results, and continuously learn and grow in a dynamic environment

Compensation for this position will be $75,000 per year
