We are currently seeking a Mine Engineer for our Hagersville Plant.
The Hagersville Plant, located approximately 30 minutes from Hamilton, Ontario, includes an underground, low seam, gypsum mine. The mining operation is room and pillar which involves drilling, blasting and loading of the gypsum rock to be conveyed to the surface operations to manufacture Sheetrock® products on two drywall lines. Room heights are forty- eight inches and the mine is approximately 100 feet underground. The mine shaft was sunk in 1931 and the Hagersville plant has been mining ever since with a strong dedication to safety, quality and efficiency.
This is an entry level position which offers a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to demonstrate their leadership ability and engineering skills while gaining practical hands on experience in an underground mining operation and contributing to the safety and efficiency of CGC's largest facility. Reporting to the Mine Department Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a variety of projects and providing technical support for the mining operation.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in mining engineering with previous work experience in a mining or manufacturing environment.
Position Description:
As a key member of the mine leadership team, the Mine Engineer shares responsibility for employee engagement, safety, quality and efficiency within the mine. Additional responsibilities of the Mine Engineer include:
- Provides input into the design of infrastructure packages such as ventilation, mining equipment, backfill, blasting, drainage, electrical, and other facilities, as required.
- Develops and implements all non-routine maintenance and capital improvement plans.
- Completes project work involving mining methods and stope and pillar design sequencing
- Provides analyses to optimize safety, quality, and efficiency
- Coordinates special projects as needed including the provincial Mine Rescue Competition.
Job Requirements & Qualification:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Unwavering commitment to safety and quality
- Solid understanding of safety compliance requirements and safe work practices
- Excellent communication (verbal and written, public speaking and issue resolution skills.
- Results oriented individual who can build and maintain relationships within a diverse workforce
- Willing to relocate for future promotional opportunities.
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
