Accountabilities:
  • The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:
  • Ensure that organisation's Safety, Health & Environment Management System are incorporated in all areas of Mining Load & Haul to ensure compliance to OSHAS 18001 and OSHAS 14001 and the compliance thereof; 
  • Contribute to the identification of safety risks and resolve and escalating emerging issues that impact on area of accountability and operation; 
  • Maintain processes to provide a safe workplace to all underground mining employees and external service providers undertaking work within your area of accountability; 
  • Assist in the achievement of Safety goals for the Mining Function. 
  • Set targets for drilling, blasting and excavation ensuring these are met through CPQQTR and effective managerial leadership and engagement; 
  • Continuously focus on achieving production targets and cost e.g. supplying of ore to the processing plant as per mine plan. 
  • To provide direct output and support to the Senior Manager: Operational Effectiveness in co-ordinating the effectiveness of the mining contractor services & plan by continuously focus on adherence of targets set out as per the mining contractor service agreement. 
  • To provide direct output support to the Senior Manager: Operational Effectiveness in co-ordinating the execution and effectiveness of the operations' mining production systems and plans. 
  • Provide direct output to the Senior Manager: Operational Effectiveness with the implementation and sustainability of Project ONE with specific reference to the Business Process Framework (BPF) and System for People (SP) to ensure the right person in the right role at the right time doing the right work in the right way within area of accountability. 
  • Providing technical specialist support and advice through collateral and cross functional approaches and analysis pertaining to productivity, mining efficiencies and cost; 
  • Providing technical specialist input into Studies and Project work as and when required e.g. mining taskforce projects. 
  • Maintaining effective working relations on a continuous basis with internal and external stakeholders /suppliers/ contactors to improve the quality of service and operational performance of the CAR Mining Operations; 
  • Conducting benchmarking exercises with other business units / mine sites within the group with regards to best practices. 
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the mining production systems, behaviours and practices for continuous improvement and internal / external decision-making / information e.g. safety statistics, performance by production shifts, mining contractor etc. 
  • Maintaining a statistical reporting and recordkeeping system for storage and controlling of mining production data; 
  • Continuously analysing existing mining production processes & procedures with a view of finding ways for corrective action that could eliminate problem areas and to re-align again with objectives e.g. target efficiency, production and productivity improvements. 
  • Ensuring compliance of the application of mining production policies and procedures in line with legislation and regional / corporate standards and guidelines; 
  • Continuously analysing work environments and implement corrective actions to ensure good audit compliance e.g. OHSAS 18001 , OSHAS 14001; 
  • Providing direct output and support to the Senior Manager: Operational Effectiveness in identifying and prioritizing of all underground mining operations related risks and liabilities and ensure these risks and liabilities are recorded and monitored against a mitigation action plan; 
  • Managing subordinates' key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards, taking action to correct deviations, prepare career development plans and providing training and coaching in order to achieve the departmental objectives. 
Qualifications And Experience:
  • BSc Mining Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification in Mining. 
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant mining experience with at least 3 years in underground operations. 
  • Working knowledge and experience with Mine Design Planning Software
