Mining Engineering Intern

Requirements:

  • Prior internship experience required. Required Education:
  • Currently enrolled student going into their Junior year or higher pursuing a a Mining Engineer degree with a GPA of 3.0 or better and at least 24 hours of concentration course work.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • What are the 5-8 major responsibilities/activities of the role and 2-3 major expectations attributed to each activity?

Volume Surveys

Complete monthly volume surveys in all active pits and ore stockpiles for volume and ore reconciliation.

Reconcile volumes to truck factors for both monthly and year to date tracking basis.

Update pit and dump topography monthly for better short-term planning accuracy.

Mine Surveys

  • Survey and track quality control data to define ore zone contact limits in pit to improve ore recovery in all pits.
  • Survey and record blast pattern layouts. Keep bench by bench AutoCAD records of blast patterns for future reference and adjacent pattern layout.
  • Complete daily survey elevation grade checks at pits and dumps to improve mining accuracy. Layout pit designs and project work for mining accuracy and improvements to ore recovery.

Planning

  • Complete short term mining plans to keep operations on budget targets and within the long term plan.
  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual mine and waste storage plans.

Attributes:

  • Experience with or high aptitude for learning CAD based computer software.
  • Familiarity with or high aptitude for learning GPS survey equipment.
  • Physically capable of walking on uneven surfaces and accessing all plant and quarry locations.
  • Must be capable of working outside in severe weather conditions.
  • Must have a telephone and be receptive to call out.
  • Able to work on different shifts as needed, seven days per week.
