Senior Mining Engineer, Open Pit

Due to major ongoing projects in the mining sector our client has multiple requirements for Senior Mining Engineers with extensive Open Pit Mining experience for their Toronto Division.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mine Engineering with a P. Eng designation and a minimum of 10 plus years of experience in surface Mining.

Responsibilities:

  • Mine Designing and planning including feasibility studies;
  • Evaluating alternative concepts and designs and selecting most appropriate for further development;
  • Conducting mine planning and scheduling, including but not limited to pit or mine optimization, phase development sequences, road access, mining schedules, waste dump design and scheduling, water management design, equipment selection, and project cost estimation;
  • "SAFETY FIRST" during the planning of the project and the incorporation of procedures including health and environmental;
  • Providing engineering technical support for the development of superintendents and contract administrators;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mine Engineering with a P. Eng, or has the ability to register as a Professional Engineer
  • Minimum 8-10 plus years of experience - surface mining
  • Extensive knowledge in mine design, planning and scheduling
  • Exposure to heavy civil or mining construction
  • Supervisory experience is essential, in an Open Pit Mine
  • A degree in mining engineering
  • Experience in a diverse range of commodities, with a minimum of 3 years on operating mines.
  • Knowledge of computerized mine planning and optimization tools, e.g. Gemcom, MineSight, Vulcan, Whittle
  • SURPAC software and/or other mining software experience
  • The ability to work in a dynamic, flexible workplace
  • Financial understanding
