Senior Mine Geologist

An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Senior Mining Geologist to play a key role in one of the major divisions in Northern Ontario. The role is a key strategic project team leadership position within their Mining Operations division and would be responsible for overseeing multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Job Summary:

Working with the mine geology team, you will provide geological support in areas such as planning and assisting underground drilling programs. You will also be responsible for managing the surface drilling contractor and supervising geotechnical staff, as well as geological mapping, geological and geotechnical data interpretation, 3D modeling and reserve estimation. You will also be responsible for the evaluation of radiometric and deviation surveys, production monitoring and geological reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating, motivating, training and supervising a team of geologists
  • Oversee key projects
  • Geological mapping and specialized projects, interpreting and compiling geological and structural information, interpreting
  • the ore body for integration into the geological model and management of sampling programs for input into resource models
  • Maintaining strong communications with the mining department
  • Performing geologic mapping, geologic and resources calculations, preparing and supervising drilling programs including geotechnical and geological core logging
  • Collect, document and assess geological data within the mine
  • Coordinate and supervise drill data collection and interpretation
  • Control and assure quality on bulk sample extraction to plant
  • Design grade control layouts and ensure optimum mineral recovery
  • Provide assistance to operating and engineering staff in mine planning
  • Geological modeling
  • Support mine operations personnel
  • Develop and recommend mining plans and ground support systems

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Geology or higher
  • 5 to 10 years of mine geology (production geologist) experience
  • Proven team leadership or management experience is preferred
  • Proficient in relevant software programs such as MINSAMP and Gemcom
  • A thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations and Canadian mining practices
  • Excellent communication, administration and motivational skills
  • Experience within a producing mine environment is a must for this position. (Exploration and/or quarry experience is not sufficient for this opening.)
