Mining Health & Safety Superintendent

An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced senior level Mining Health & Safety Superintendent to take a key leadership role in one of their of their key mining operations in the Northern Canada. The role is a strategic team leadership position within their Health & Safety division and would be responsible for managing, training and coaching a team of Health & Safety Coordinators as well as updating Safety Training Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and participate in Health and Safety audits and work area inspections;
• Be responsible for the development, implementation, and review of safety and health policies and programmes
• Responsible for ensuring all site personnel comply with Company safety policies, procedures, standards, and statutory requirements
• Ensure all site mining personnel participate in and adopt safe working practices as part of their daily duties and responsibilities
• Facilitate and educate line management and workforce personnel in the application of required procedures, policies and site conduct
• Provide advice to mining personnel on risk management strategies and processes;
• Review and contribute to the ongoing development of Safety Management Plans, project safety policies and procedures
• Preparation and submission of working cost and capital budgets, based on program requirements, and control expenditures within approved parameters;
• Provide input to safety training presentations provided by the safety department and assist with training delivery where required
• Audit, monitor and provide assessment for all safety and health programs to ensure compliance is achieved through risk assessment and controlling the hazards and related energies

Requirements:

• Extensive experience working as a Senior Health & Safety Superintendent or Heath & Safety Advisor within heavy industry/ construction/ Mining environment
• Underground experience preferred, hard rock mining experience
• Diploma or Certification in Industrial Safety and Health
• Minimum of 8-10 years of Health & Safety experience preferably within the mining sector
• Must have strong working knowledge of the relevant Health & Safety legislation
• Possess a high level of communication skill, capable of conversing at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders
