Senior Project Manager
JV Driver is a large industrial construction company, offering a full range of services for the oil and gas, forestry, petrochemicals, energy and mining industries. JV Driver is currently looking for five Sr. Project Managers for various projects in Alberta. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing the successful completion of an industrial construction project (over $250 Million)
Nature and Scope:
- The Project Manager is primarily responsible for the delivery and management of a large industrial project, providing overall management direction for project planning, scheduling, resourcing and budget tracking. He/she establishes project management strategies for engineering design, procurement, tender processes, contract negotiations and award, and commissioning. Through administration of on-site managers, the Project Manager also monitors construction and financial activities.
- The Project Manager identifies and lays out the "scope of work" of the project and generates the CWP structure including breaking the construction down into identifiable and manageable disciplinary elements.
- During the construction phase of the project, the Manager ensures the coordination of all of the project activities by reviewing and monitoring the activities of sub-contractors, trade and general superintendents, engineering, procurement, etc. He/she corrects any problems or inconsistencies which occur to ensure schedule, budget and quality are maintained.
- The Project Manager is responsible for managing the Human Resource function on site and working with Corporate Human Resources Department to successfully meet the needs of the project. He/she reviews the needs of the project, prepares the manpower forecast and manages through superintendents and other supervisors.
- Ensuring the safety of every tradesperson and staff employee is ultimately the responsibility of the Project Manager. Accidents during construction may result in personal injury and large costs therefore he/she must ensure that all workers are properly trained on safety risk and accident prevention and that all safety policies and procedures are followed.
- The Project Manager is responsible for the personal development of themselves and their direct reports and for ensuring employees are made aware of developmental opportunities which can enhance their abilities.
Accountabilities:
- The Project Manager is accountable for the success of a project/department with multiple structural units. He/she is accountable for the efficient and effective use of resources including manpower, financial and equipment and for delivering the completed project on schedule and in accordance with quality and safety standards.
- The impact of decisions made by the Project Manager is significant in terms of both financial and public relations. His/her decisions can have a long term impact on the entire company and future projects and relationships.
- The Project Manager has on-going communications with employees at all levels and often represents the company in dealings with clients or partners. The Manager is also expected to ensure that effective methods of communication are available to and for staff and supervisors.
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
- The minimum requirement for this position is a degree in Engineering along with 12 to 15 years of directly related construction experience and 5 to 8 years of managerial experience.
- The incumbent must have solid verbal and written communication skills, be an analytical thinker and have excellent planning and organizational skills
