Our client is a global contractor who has positioned themselves as a preferred contractor for the design, procurement and construction of large scale multibillion mine infrastructure projects in the Pilbara. This reputation is indicative of their longstanding relationships with the major miners that continually exceed expectation in terms of quality and standard of work.

With a number of new project awards and approval for funding to execute a high profile Greenfield pit to port infrastructure project the necessity to ensure a positive safety culture is embraced on various sites throughout WA is an ongoing commitment.

As the HSE Manager you will be a key member of the Regional Divisional HSE Team. Your mandate will be to lead a team of site professionals and ensure a strong and positive safety culture is embraced. As the link between site and corporate you will work within an established/robust regulatory framework to effectively implement the HSE Management plan. This position will resonate with analytically minded individuals who are experienced in coordinating/developing external audit procedures. Based on the nature of our client’s projects, those who can demonstrate a sound aptitude in the application of HSE management systems at the Tier 1/2 contractor level within a mining construction context will be given preference. 

While you will play an integral role in the successful implementation of a robust HSE management plan across various projects, the key responsibilities for this position will be to implement change and assist in the development of HSE management systems/procedures to suit client requirements when required. 

Reporting directly to Senior Site Management you will be given the autonomy required to achieve your objectives. You will need to be both dynamic and sensitive with high level corporate communication skills and extensive knowledge of HSE Management systems. Furthermore you need to exhibit drive and commitment to the role and demonstrate long tenure in previous roles. With leading management systems and a clear reporting structure this role will suit focused and ambitious HSE Management professionals with the drive and energy to undertake the following accountabilities;    

  • Maintain regional records with coordination of the HSE Management System
  • Ensure compliance to client site HSE procedures and requirements
  • Authorise stop work and mitigate non compliance issues
  • Co-ordinate consistent implementation of the HSE sections of IMS across various projects 
  • Carry out planned internal & external audits and report to management on the effectiveness  
  • Assist in identifying HSE training (and awareness) needs for the project
  • Review incident reports and participate in investigations
  • Provide input and advice to tender team.
  • Conduct comprehensive incident investigations in conjunction with site staff using appropriate and proven investigation techniques, follow through to close out and ultimately reduce the re-occurrence of incidents by identifying root cause/s and implement control measures.
  • Be conversant with head contract and subcontract HSE terms and conditions.

To be considered for the positions it is essential you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in  related discipline construction highly diserable
  • Cert IV Training & Assessment
  • Diploma OHS
  • Internal auditor certification for Safety & Environmental Management Systems  
  • 5 years minimum experience in similar position with a Tier 1 construction contractor is a must
  • Effective Written & Verbal communication skills
  • Risk Management Skills
