Lead preparation of S/HIAs and associated management plans in compliance with international best practice standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles) as well as country-specific requirements and general best practices where these specific standards do not apply.
- Direct and monitor project management activities related to S/HIA projects, including task delegation and direction, subcontractor management, health & safety protocol management, monitoring of commercial performance, deliverable quality review, and interaction with clients.
- Contribute to preparing S/HIA deliverables, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to quality review. Expected project delivery activities include report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
- Lead social/health audits for transactional due diligence projects.
- Collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute S/HIA projects. Participate on teams comprised of IAP professionals from multiple offices around the global ERM organization.
- Mentor junior-level and mid-level consulting staff (including those with introductory levels of impact assessment experience) to develop their skill sets in the IAP practice area.
- Contribute to proposal development, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates. Maintain client relationships to support repeat business.
- Work with other global ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the global IAP market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development support).
Requirements:
- Bachelors in social science, public health, public policy, occupational health, sociology, political science, anthropology or a similar degree; Masters or PhD preferred.
- 5+ years of social/socio-economic/health impact assessment experience, including successfully managing projects and teams on S/HIAs outside of the U.S.
- Experience working in developing / transitional countries. Willing to travel and possibly work at project sites in these areas for short periods of time.
- Excellent writing ability (in English). Fluent in English and in at least one additional language relevant to locations where extractives industries are active (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian).
- Solid grasp of the key S/HIA and management issues within the Oil & Gas power, and mining sectors, as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of S/HIA best practices.
- Positive reputation with key regulators relevant to impact assessment approvals (e.g., Environment Ministries, international finance institutions).
- Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
