Our client in Southwestern Ontario is currently seeking and Environmental Health & Safety Manager to join their dynamic team.

General Description of Duties and Objectives: Under the general supervision of the Plant manager, provides oversight and leadership for the environmental, health and safety function for manufacturing and logistic facilities across Canada. In partnership with their corporate, the ideal candidate will direct and manage the development and execution of the safety program specific to operations, legislative requirements, and where appropriate, customer specifications. Provides technical support on safety matters and works with Environmental Safety and Health team to develop new processes, safety training, and related materials, and to update existing processes that address internal/external customer needs, and reduce employee injury

Specific Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Leads the implementation of safety and health programs and processes specific to the Canadian manufacturing and warehouse facilities to ensure compliance with local, federal regulations and internal EHS policies. Facilitates with the plant management team in administering and maintaining the safety program.
  • Develops a communication strategy for management and supervision to maintain a high level of safety awareness at the front line employee level.
  • Reviews contract documentation for jobs meeting large project safety criteria for relevant safety issues that may affect the execution of the safety program at the project/site level.
  • Directs and conducts the start-up/transition activities for new projects, including: evaluating site hazards, customization of the safety plan and related programs based on hazard assessment, orientation of new employees, and the development of an action plan to establish time frames for meeting specific program development and ongoing milestones.
  • Assists in calculating and communicating safety performance metrics and goals and regularly tracks and reports on progress against safety goals.
  • Evaluates and analyzes injuries and related trends at assigned sites and works directly with those operations to establish root causes and associated preventative measures.
  • Conducts the needed audits and works with consultant where third party audits are required.
  • Presents and promotes safety program and performance data to external customers based on need as established by the customer, sales or operations.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety or related equivalent. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or the ability to obtain, preferred
  • Minimum Experience Required
  • 3-5 years progressive Environmental Health and Safety experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Special Skills or Knowledge Required:
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
