Senior Environmental Specialist

A great opportunity to join a small but growing environmental consulting firm in Northern Ontario. Blue Heron provides a range of technical and consulting services for mining clients around the world. Due to continued and sustained growth, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Senior Environmental Specialist to join our team in Northern Ontario (preferably in Timmins, but alternate Northern Ontario locations will be considered).
Reporting to the company Director, you are a senior environmental professional that can plan, execute and manage environmental projects. You will provide high value environmental permitting and compliance services, leading an internal and/or external team as required to meet client needs.
 Reporting directly to the Director, you will work alongside a team of like-minded professionals on a range of projects in the resources sector. Your role will include engaging closely with clients, regulators, other professionals and stakeholders to assist with permitting, compliance and continual improvement initiatives at mining and resource-based operations.

Responsibilities Include:  
  • Project planning and management, including leading environmental baseline studies, environmental management system development and implementation and environmental permitting;  
  • Lead and coordinate applications for environmental permitting and approvals;
  • Provision of strategic advice and reviews; 
  • Technical reporting and interpretation; 
  • Liaising closely with clients to understand the scope of work;  
  • Dealing with regulators to undertake required permitting and approvals; 
  • Coordination of specialist consultants; 
  • Oversee and mentor less experienced internal staff;  
  • Deliver training to internal staff as well as clients; 
  • Proposal preparation; 
  • Budget tracking and cost control;
  • Review and evaluate technical work of other staff; and  
  • Using your established network within the Ontario (and Canadian) resource industries to help develop new business opportunities and grow the business.
