Environmental Engineer - Mid Level - Remediation Focus

Barr Engineering is seeking an environmental engineer to join its Ann Arbor office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the evaluation and remediation of contaminated sites. Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with any of the following tasks: onsite investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater and vapor intrusion; feasibility studies; remedial design; engineering calculations; construction cost estimates, plans and specifications; and technical reports. Project responsibilities will also include development of proposals, scopes of work and budgets; communications, meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel; and overall project management. Responsibilities may also include mentoring staff, building client relationships and business development.

Note:

  • Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. Participation in an OSHA mandated medical surveillance program will be required and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites. Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Geological or Chemical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of related experience working on environmental sites.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs while providing exceptional client service.
  • Acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan or ability to become registered within 6 months.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations including knowledge of Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 programs.
  • Familiarity with properties of toxic contaminants, including fate and transport.
  • Project management and leadership experience with complex projects.
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship development skills.
