Senior Environmental Impact Assessment Power/Transmission Leader

  • [Company] is seeking a talented Senior Environmental Impact Assessment Power/Transmission Leader, with consulting experience and established client relationships, to grow our business in the Power Sector in the Western US.  The ideal candidate will have established relationships with domestic transmission/power companies, along with technical expertise leading multi-media permitting and large-scale capital projects in the Western and Southwestern US.  This position can be based in Scottsdale, AZ, Salt Lake City, UT, or other Southwestern location.
  • As a senior leader, you will be fully accountable for successfully selling and consulting on a range of environmental, social, and health impact assessment projects to build a sustainable business locally, while networking with [Company]  global practice team to share best practices across the industry. This is a partner-track opportunity for a senior-level professional looking to advance their career with a global environmental leader, and to make a significant impact in successfully implementing [Company]  global strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic business/action plan, provide leadership, and deliver performance results to expand [Company]  Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) practice and client base in the power sector.  Serve as a key member of the “core” practice team to drive double-digit profitable growth across the IAP service lines and power sector in the Americas.
  • As a senior “seller/doer” and transmission practice leader, contribute to business development of [Company]  IAP practice and power sector.  Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients. Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business. Achieve personal sales contribution targets of $1 million per year (net value).
  • Serve as Senior Technical Director for impact assessment and environmental, social and health impact (ESHIA) projects and related activities in support of [Company] clients’ capital projects (i.e., power generation, electrical transmission, renewable energy projects).
  • Lead or oversee siting and licensing projects. Contribute to preparing EAs/EISs/ESHIAs and associated management plans in compliance with NEPA, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to QA/QC review.   Achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Capitalize on existing [Company] client relationships to expand [Company]  profile and market share in the IAP power market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development).  Work with other [Company] resources to deepen relationships with [Company] key clients and establish new client relationships that result in significant net revenue growth.
  • Support the general growth and development of [Company]  international IAP practice and power sector.  Collaborate with other [Company] global practitioners to execute impact assessment projects.  Participate on teams comprised of impact assessment professionals from multiple offices around the global [Company] organization.
  • Lead, manage performance, hire and retain, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of practice team.

Requirements:

  • Experience and confidence to lead and grow business in a dynamic market environment.
  • BS in engineering/science; PE, CEP, AICP or similar registration highly desirable.
  • 15+ years of impact assessment transmission experience with a consulting firm or for a major utility.
  • Experience siting transmission lines and with regulatory licensing requirements in applicable states, key stakeholder issues, and management tools.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful business growth strategies in the IAP transmission market.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients, and book personal sales of $1,000,000 (net revenue) in new IAP consulting services.  Established relationships with major Western utilities, and familiarity with BLM and other federal, state, and local land management offices.
  • Solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues within the Power sector, as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices.
  • Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the regional marketplace, including positive reputation with key regulators relevant to transmission and power project approvals.
  • Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
  • Collaborative work ethic and strong analytical and writing skills.
