Senior Geologist – Group Technical Leader

Due to major ongoing projects our client has multiple requirements for a Senior Geologist- Group Technical Leader to take a key role within their Toronto operations.

The preferred candidate has ten plus years of experience, proven project/ team leadership experience and is technically proficient is geological modeling and resources estimation. Responsibilities:

  • Lead major mining projects from conception to completion pertaining to estimation and maintenance of compliant resource and reserve statements for the companies mining operations and exploration projects
  • Provide technical input into project reviews, feasibility studies for development projects or acquisitions by the Company
  • Providing technical leadership to a diverse mining engineering team ranging from junior to Principal level staff
  • Train and mentor staff in Resource Estimation Methodology
  • Responsible for the timely execution of assessments of opportunities together with the co-ordination of all necessary technical work required to define, evaluate, advanced projects that meet the Company’s strategic objectives
  • Develop complex geological models in support of resource estimates
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis
  • Perform variography and grade interpolation as well as verification and validation of resource models
  • Classify high grade mineral deposits
  • Perform grade control and reconciliation studies
  • Actively supporting business development activities through participation in conferences, direct business development activities and strategic client relationship management
  • Assist in the identification and recruitment of high quality staff in order to grow and expand the technical capabilities of the group.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and reviewing geological models and resource estimates; exploration and database management.
  • A first degree in geology or mining engineering
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of resource estimation experience (preferably including industry experience)
  • Strong geostatistical skills
  • Proficiency with computerised resource estimation tools
  • Prior consulting experience is considered a major asset
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of geostatistical theory with resource estimation and operational mining experience
  • Previous experience with the following responsibilities; analysis of the deposit data available including verification and database management; creation of 2D and/or 3D geological and mineralization models for the deposit; statistical and geostatistical analyses of the data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
