Long-term Planning Manager

Highly reputable mining organisation requires a Long-term Planning Manager for the Resource Planning and Development (RP&D) Department based in Johannesburg.

Purpose

  • Identification of investment opportunities and for the content of the Resource Development Potential, Life of Asset and 5 year plan for two operating mines, two prospecting leases and a smelter.

Minimum Requirements

  • Mining Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Advantageous to have a commercial qualification [ BCom Finance ] or GDE in financial valuation of mining companies
  • Competent person on bulk commodities
  • At least 3 years post graduate experience in long-term mine planning
  • 2 years relevant experience in financial valuation and modelling
  • Well conversed with mine planning tools and techniques (Xpac/Blaser/Mine-24D)
  • Team leadership
  • SAP HR, DCF valuation techniques
  • Understanding basic concepts of strategic delivery planning processes.

Reports to:       

  • Head of Resource Planning and Development

Key success factors :

  • Security of tenure for mining rights held by the Asset
  • Resource and Reserve predictability & growth
  • Asset PVR growth
  • CAP compliance (RDP, LOA and 5YP) in line with GLD 035
  • Integration of RDP vs. LOA vs. 5YP vs. 2YP
  • Risk identification and mitigation

RDP

  • Facilitation of RDP workshops to identify of sustainable high value opportunities, including external options according to GLDs
  • Evaluation and selection of sustainable high value scenarios/opportunities on a risked value basis
  • Identify risks associated with opportunities
  • Scenarios planning aligned with strategic risk identification
  • Context setting for LOA  planning
  • Strategic risk identification, mitigation and monitoring
  • Identify, assess and monitor Asset strategic risks
  • Develop and embed an Asset strategic risk trigger action response plan
  • Facilitate strategic risk management
  • Concept development (initial phase growth and optimisation studies)
  • Manage the opportunity pipeline through to agreed accountability hand over points
  • Identification Phase Studies (growth and optimisation) flowing from the CAP process
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives identified in risk management and business performance processes through to agreed accountability hand over points
  • Manage preserved options

LOA

  • Transform RDP optimised with outputs into LOA
  • Analyse and develop realistic options for LOA
  • Identify go forward projects
  • Business economic evaluations
  • Context setting for 5 year planning
  • Closure planning process and outcomes
