SRC is currently seeking an environmental chemist for our Syracuse, N.Y., office. This non-laboratory position will require the evaluation of the manufacture, formulation, use, physical/chemical properties and environmental fate of commercial chemicals and processes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Data compilation and the subsequent analysis of structure, reactivity, properties, mechanisms of action and other key factors to assess, evaluate and prioritize chemical substances
  • Support projects for a wide variety of customers, although initial focus will be in the area of Green Chemistry, the evaluation of safer substitutes and the production of reports intended for technically diverse audiences
  • Design, development and implementation of next-generation computer tools for storing/accessing chemocentric data and predicting properties, persistence and toxicity of chemical substances
  • Incorporate, evaluate and derive conclusions that cross traditional scientific disciplines and leverage the capabilities of modern tools, techniques and platforms

Position Requirements

  • Doctorate in organic or physical organic chemistry
  • Excellent technical writing and oral presentation skills, as well as the desire to work in a progressive, interactive environment
  • Strong background and demonstrated experience in programming languages including Java; and/or direct and demonstrated experience in developing/validating quantitative structure activity models is preferred
  • Experience in relational data bases a plus but not required
