Underground Mine Captain (Coal)

In 2002 our Client delivered the first ever Continuous Miner into India. As part of the
sale agreement the company were contracted to operate and maintain the
equipment for a period of 5 years. In 2003 a second CM was delivered together
with similar O+M package. A third set of equipment with O+M support was
delivered at the end of 2005. Each project comprising of a set of equipment
together with its own 5 year O+M contract, is valued in the USD millions.
Equipment
-
Each of the operations use a Continuous Miner and a variety of underground
mining support equipment, i.e. Shuttlecars, bolters ands breakers.
Locations
- All operations in India are in extremely
remote locations, but are all within 500kms of Nagpur. The sites are
self contained with purpose built guesthouses operated and maintained
exclusively for Client staff by a Client local sub contractor.
Duties
-
The Mine Captain will be responsible for all mine activities relating to the
operation and maintenance of the Continuous Miner fleet of equipment.
Responsibilities include
- Involvement in production related duties to the fulfilment of all
aspects of the O+M contract in order and to meet the target tonnages as set out
in the contract.
- You must have experience of underground mining, specifically depillaring
(PILLAR EXTRACTION). This experience is required for this role.
Candidate
-
Reporting to the company Project Manager in India.
- The candidate will probably be a qualified miner (although a Mechanical
or Electrical Engineer with appropriate experience may be considered) with a at
least a diploma, or a Mine Overseers Certificate.
- You will be a hands on person with proven experience of meeting
production targets
- You will have knowledge of under ground Room and Pillar coal mining and
depillaring.
- Knowledge of the Client’s underground coal mining equipment will be an
advantage.
- Experience in operating overseas in a remote location would be
preferable although not essential.
- Because the locations are so remote the projects are run on a single
status basis – as such the candidate is unlikely to have a young family.
- This is a challenging role and the candidate must be a self starter,
practical, capable of dealing with any issues that can arise in a remote location and being
immediately responsible for a production team.
Terms
- Our Client offers a salary, net of all deductions, for expatriates (i.e.
cash in hand), however local engineers with appropriate experience will also be
considered – as citizens Indian taxation will be an obligation.
- Our Client will be responsible for all income tax arising in India, for expatriates,
as well as all living and traveling expenses for all staff. Candidates will be
responsible for their own home-country income tax obligations.
- Our Client offers a two year contract which can be mutually extended.
The prospects for the candidate in this position are excellent and there is the
opportunity for promotion to Project Manager status as the number of O+M
projects increase.
- The work / leave cycle will be 11 weeks in India followed by 2 weeks
leave – leave is exclusive of traveling days to and from the site (typically 2
days either way).
- All food, accommodation, travel costs whist in India as well as costs in
traveling to and from home to the site in India will be met by our Client, as
well as free participation in the company’s international medical aid and life
assurance schemes.
