Mine Geologist (Open Pit Coal)



  • Completion of high school, Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
  • Credentials (certificates, licenses, memberships, courses, etc.): Registration as a professional geologist
  • Experience: 3 - 5 years
  • Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English
  • Type of Work Experience: Resource exploration, Resource exploitation and development, Theoretical or fundamental research, Applied (non-industrial) research, Industrial research and development, Instrumentation, Development of maps, Instrument design and development, Statistical analysis
  • Work Setting: Mining company
  • Geology Specialization: Coal geology, Mineralogy or applied mineralogy, Mineral deposits or mining
  • Geology Skills: Surface geological mapping
  • Geochemistry Specialization: Mineral geochemistry
  • Geochemistry Skills: Field sampling and preparation, Rock and source analysis, Residuals and soils analysis
  • Geophysics Specialization: Minerals, Engineering
  • Types of Resources: Coal
  • Resource Usage and Environmental Studies: Environmental assessment, Natural resources policy evaluation, Resource appraisal and assessment, Rock mechanics, Site remediation, Slope stability studies, Waste management (storage)
  • Field Work Location Experience: On land
  • Project and Personnel Management Skills: Manage field studies, Multidisciplinary projects co-ordination, Preparing or evaluating technical proposals, Supervise field crews, Exploration program management
  • Computer Experience: Data manipulation and analysis, Modelling and simulation
  • Essential Skills: Reading text, Document use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral communication, Working with others, Problem solving, Decision making, Critical thinking, Job task planning and organizing, Significant use of memory, Finding information, Computer use, Continuous learning
  • Other Information: Must have geology or related degree, minimum 5 years experience, preferably in open pit coal mining. Experience in computer assisted modeling (Gemcom). This position is in Northeastern BC, so a permanent relocation is necessary.
