Senior Geologist



This is a full time position in our operations department.

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

  • This individual will be a key member of an integrated team dedicated to developing existing plays and exploring for new opportunities in the Medicine Hat Team area
  • As a gas focused area, existing plays include conventional and unconventional gas opportunities and three large, medium gravity oil pools
  • Projects will include developing growth opportunities through land acquisition and exploration, supporting development programs and asset evaluations for acquisition and divestment.
  • Mentorship and development of junior and intermediate Geologists will also be a critical component of this role. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • A solid understanding of the geology of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, including knowledge of stratigraphy, structure, and trapping mechanisms for various conventional, unconventional and resource play types;
  • The ability to assimilate key information and incorporate the knowledge of other team disciplines, such as Land, Geophysics and Engineering is important;
  • Mentoring skill to aid in the development of junior team members; 
  • Capable of effectively utilizing GeoScout or Accumap is required. A good working knowledge of Geographix is a definite asset;
  • Exploration and development mapping skills with an understanding of production test reports;
  • Strong Petrophysical evaluation skills applied to conventional and cased hole logs;
  • Log analysis and cased hole log interpretation experience;
  • Drilling program supervision and project management skills;
  • Experience providing geologic support for reservoir modeling and simulation;
  • A minimum of 10 years of exploitation and exploration industry experience is preferred;
  • A working understanding of seismic interpretation is preferred for coordinated work with area geophysicist;
  • Varied experience throughout the basin with a proven track record of success, and resource play prospect generation skill sets is preferred. This skill will be applied both to new exploration opportunities and within existing pools;
  • Effective presentation skills;
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have shown appropriate successful strategy recommendations, and have experience with recommending operated wells, J.V. operations, including well notices, PNG lease continuations, land sale evaluations, 3rd party asset evaluations, etc.
