Senior Mine Reclamation/Closure Engineer



The objective of the Sr. Mine Reclamation/Closure Engineer will be to develop reclamation and closure plans for the Mine. As well the incumbent will represent the company on several Regional Committees and working groups. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Annual Reports on reclamation and closure for various provincial agencies. 
  • Prepare and revise Closure plans as required.
  • Prepare security bond calculation and work on Government task force to revise.
  • Work with stakeholders to review and incorporate suggestions into the reclamation and closure plans.
  • Develop scopes of work for reclamation pre-stripping, stockpiling, and reclamation activities
  • Participate in multi-stakeholder committees and working groups regarding TEK, Landscape and design, geo-technical and other reclamation and closure related topics.
  • Work with long and short range planning group and field engineers to review dump designs and make sure that structures are being built to design standards.
  • The biggest challenge is designing to ever changing standards. Secondly, the person in this position will need to incorporate the requirements of many stakeholders
  • It will be difficult to please everyone and incorporate all their ideas.

 

Qualifications

  • The incumbent must have a B.Sc. degree in Geotechnical or Mining Engineering
  • The incumbent also needs to have 5-8 years operational experience at a mine
  • It would be helpful to have experience building and/or reclaiming tailings ponds and waste rock dumps as they will be the first features to be reclaimed.
  • Prepare reclamation and closure plans for presentation to each of our First Nation stakeholders. Meeting are to be at least 3 times per year
  • One of these meetings includes representatives from AENV and  SRD. 

 

Participation on the following committees is not optional as they form  part of the company's approval conditions

  • RWG Landscape Design subgroup
  • RWG Reclamation Certification subgroup
  • RWG End Pit Lake subgroup
  • A closure planner can work with long term planners determine the costs of various options being considered.
  • This position will develop annual reclamation plans which will be used to develop budgets and work plans
